💀🦕🦖 I have switched my search engine to Qwant early summer, because I felt disturbed by Google's AI summaries. I switched in all browsers I use: desktop, phone, work. Qwant has been working fine in the past months; there were some minor downtimes and glitches but ultimately it is the search experience I need and no AI.
AI summaries are good, and they are getting better and better. Sure, they 'feel' creepy as if someone was looking over my shoulder - but those folks are there anyway. My key reason was that I don't need AI summaries for most of my searches, and I know they consume an immense amount of energy. I am not shy to ask ChatGPT/Copilot/Gemini (or Claude or whatever) when I need a summary, and I use them a lot. However, in most cases it is not a summary I need, I just need to find something. Sometimes I just use the browser's search bar because I am too lazy to type the Wikipedia address. (OK, now I also bookmarked Wikipedia, if I need that I will search there directly.)
Why burn so many dead dinosaurs 💀🦕🦖 for no reason?
I picked https://qwant.com as it is European so our privacy (etc) regulations apply. A US alternative could be https://noai.duckduckgo.com.
